[Tennis] Federer Hoists 1st Trophy in 5 Months

Roger Federer broke his title drought yesterday thanks to an abandoned match.

The world No. 1 won the Estoril Open in Oeiras, Portugal, after world No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko of Russia was forced to retire in the second set with a leg injury.

This was Federer’s first title in five months since last year’s Masters Cup in Shanghai and the 54th of his career. He had come up short in the season’s first four tournaments.

"It’s the first time in my life I play a final and someone gave up," Federer said.

Federer had a hard time winning the first set, 7-6, and was behind 2-1 in the second when his opponent bowed out.
