Prosecutors Search Homes of Bribe Suspects

Posted October. 01, 2007 03:08,

The prosecutors investigating alleged collusion between real estate developer Kim Sang-jin and former presidential aide Jeong Yun-jae obtained information that Jeong received more than 100 million won in illicit political funds from multiple supporters, and began efforts to obtain evidence yesterday.

The prosecution searched the homes and offices of the bribe suspects on September 27.

It is planning to call in Jeong once again for questioning after it completes its investigation into suspected bribes and illicit political fund receipt.

Under these circumstances, Chung Dong-min, the prosecutor leading the investigation, told reporters on September 28, “Jeong needs to be summoned and investigated again if we confirm an additional charge.”

The charge of receiving illicit political funds was not confirmed by the prosecution on September 19 when it solicited the first arrest warrant against Jeong. The court did not take the charge into account in deciding whether to arrest Jeong, either.

Meanwhile, prosecutors also searched a volunteer group office in Busan for which Jeong worked as leading policy advisor in 2005, and is now analyzing accounting data it obtained.
