Yoo Won-chul (Korea National Sport University), “Hope for Korean gymnastics,” became the sole Korean to win a medal at the 39th World Gymnastics Championships.

In the Men’s parallel bars final of the Championships in Aarhus, Denmark yesterday, Yoo tied with Japan’s Hiroyuki Tomita with 15.950 points for second place and won a silver medal.

Yoo, who is now stealing the spotlight as the successor to Korean gymnastics’ star player, and Yang Tae-young (Posco Engineering and Construction) advanced to the final with the seventh-best preliminary match record. Eight players competed in the final match.

Meanwhile, Yang Tae-young just ranked sixth with 15.725 points despite his first place record in the preliminary match.

Kim Seung-il (Hanyang University) also came in seventh with 14.375 points in the horizontal bar final.

China’s Yang Wei, a gold medalist in the men’s individual all-round final, won a triple crown, ranking first in parallel bar with 16.075 points after taking a gold medal in men’s team final.
