With students on summer vacation, the “Dong-A Ilbo 2006 Youth Concert” will be held on August 9 and 10 at 8:00 p.m. at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall.

This concert has already gained a reputation as the one not to be missed among countless other youth concerts. It will be a good opportunity for students to learn more about classic al music, rather than just attending a concert as part of vacation homework. Without any prior knowledge about classical music, the listeners can simply write down what they felt, and then observe diverse instruments such as piano, flute and clarinet, as well as the differences of male and female vocalists.

The concert will be performed by five new rising stars in their 20s who have all won a prize at the 2005 Dong-A Ilbo Music Concour. The Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra will also perform, and Park Eun-seong, who is the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra’s standing conductor and also the President of the Korean Conductors’ Association, will conduct and provide commentary.

At the concert hall, report sheets to help out students complete their summer vacation assignments will be distributed for free.

The report sheet is composed to ensure that after the students listen to the concert, they can ask and answer simple music knowledge that they remember. By gluing the concert ticket and photographs taken at the concert to the report sheet, their assignment is finished.

On August 9, Soprano Lee Hye-jeong will sing to Verdi’s “Caro nome” from Opera “Rigoletto,” Mozart’s “O zittre nicht, mein lieber Sohn” from Opera “Die Zauberflote,” Mozart’s overture from “Le Nozze di Figaro,” and Im Geung-soo’s “Like Spring coming across the river.” After the intermission, Jegal So-mang will perform Rachmaninov’s “Piano Concerto No.2 in C Major” with his piano.

On August 10, Clarinetist Im Sang-woo will play Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto in A Major,” Cho Eun-young will perform Mozart’s “Oboe Concerto in C Major,” and Kim Jin-hoon will play Mozart’s “Bassoon Concerto in Bb Major.”

Tickets cost from 11,000 to 16,000 won. Call 02-2020-1620 or 1588-7890 for more information.
