Israel Completes Gaza Withdrawal

Israel completed its military pullout from the Gaza Strip on September 12, closing Checkpoint Kisufim on the boundary line between Israel and Gaza.

The withdrawal marked the handover of jurisdiction in Gaza to the Palestinian Authority 38 years after Israel occupied it in the aftermath of the third Arab-Israeli War in 1967. The Gaza Strip had been a hotbed of Palestinian resistance to Israel.
