The New York Hankook Ilbo reported on May 19 that a U.S. State Department document has been discovered which debunks a rumor about the murder of the former chief of the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, Kim Hyeong-wook (54 at the time), in Paris in 1979.

The New York Hankook Ilbo quoted the “Weekly Status Report-Korea” that the State Department sent to the Korean embassy in the U.S. on February 29, 1980, as saying that “Kim Hyeong-wook left Paris with one Korean man on October 9 in 1979, and went to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia via Zurich, Switzerland, but since then, his whereabouts are unclear.”

What the document of the U.S. State Department says is totally different from the report of some Korean media outlets that a Korean Central Intelligence Agency special agent abducted and murdered Kim Hyeong-wook using a grinder in a poultry farm outside Paris, or the rumor that an assassin crushed Kim to death at a junkyard in Paris on an order from then-President Park Chung-hee around October 20, 1979.
