The TG Xers have taken one step closer to the championship.

Game Two of the 2004~2005 Anycall Pro-basketball League semifinals, which took place at Wonju’s Chiak Gymnasium on March 27, ended with the Xers beating the Samsung Thunders, 93-83. Thus, the Xers have already won two games out of a best-of-five series, putting them one game away from the finals. Game Three will be held at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium on March 29.

Thunders’ head coach Ahn Joon-ho had predicted before the game that the struggle for securing the ball would be the key to the game, saying, “The team that rules the boards will prevail.” The victory ultimately went to the Xers, who had a 40-28 advantage over the Thunders in rebounds. Xers Awvee Storey and Yang Gyung-min scored 31 points with 13 rebounds, and 17 points with 10 rebounds, respectively. Shin Ki-sung, who scored 20 points and made 16 assists, broke the playoff assist record, which had been previously held by the Thunders’ Joo Hee-jung (15).

Xers’ head coach Jeon Chang-jin said before the game, “I was concerned that our players would lower their guard after they won big in their previous game, but their mood seemed upbeat when I saw them in practice, so I did not emphasize the need to focus.” As if to answer to Jeon’s expectations, the Xers did not succumb to the Thunders’ pressure at the beginning of the game and continued to widen the scoring gap from the last part of the first quarter.

Ahn Joon-ho said, “Seo Jang-hoon is not in good condition, but we will go all out in Game Three.”
