SNU Forms “Refutation Advisory Committee”

Posted May. 31, 2004 22:18,

Seoul National University (SNU) commenced collecting internal and external opinions for finding a solution for the recent “SNU abolition policy.”

SNU’s Yoo Kyen-bae announced yesterday that SNU is collecting opinions for a solution of the SNU abolition policy with professors, honorary professors, and outside scholars, recommended by several colleges, since the middle of May.

There have been times when individual professors announced their opinions, however, this is the first time for SNU to express problem-solving methods as a whole.

These recommended scholars are, in reality, “advisors” and will deliver views, stands, and the right direction for SNU to head towards in opposition to the SNU abolition argument to the school through the planning office.

This is due to SNU’s growing concern as the Democratic Labor Party, who promised the unification of the national university, entered the Assembly and as the Presidential Committee on Education Innovation revises the national university joint academic degree.

Yoo announced, “We decided to ask for advice as professors seem to become sensitive about the SNU abolition argument and asked for recommendation from each college. We plan to collect opinions and report them to the president of SNU.”

He added, “Until now, there have been strong opinions to establish a healthy identity for SNU and improve the problems. In particular, we are looking for ways to help public education and rural area universities.”
