On May 22, North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (at right) agreed to immediately resume negotiations on diplomatic normalization, reaffirming the implementation of the Pyongyang Declaration adopted in September 2002 during their summit meeting in Pyongyang.
