Will the two running trains confronting each other collide at last? As a mere citizen of this country who has to watch over the proposal of impeachment against the incumbent president for the first time in the 56-year history of the constitution, I feel sad and indignant. From the two opposition parties which have obstinately insisted on issuing the impeachment bill against the president, and Chong Wa Dae, which copes with this movement with apathy, any thoughtful ideas which concern their mother country and its citizens cannot be found.

As the problem could be solved simply with politics, the imprudence of the political world seems inexplicably fatuous. With any moral obligations, these conditions of the political world are nothing but leading the ambience of the public closer to their own interests. It is no more than compelling people into bad politics centering on the political tactics.

The responsibility of President Roh is the heaviest. If he did not violate the election law and openly apologize to the people by humbly admitting the decision of the National Election Commission, the situation would not have come to the state of impeachment. Regardless of the reason, President Roh has to consider his ignominious record of being the country’s first impeached president.

It is hard to understand why Chong Wa Dae and the Open Uri Party, the ruling party, continue to reiterate, “what is our fault?” and “coup d’etat like demagoguery politics.” Does their attitude of preparing for a fight aggravate the situation?

In advance of the decision on impeachment bill, the opposition parties have to reconsider their reasons for drawing up an impeachment against the president. They have to accept the indication of the public, which asserts that a congress disgraced by diverse corruption cases, and the illegal presidential election fund case does not have the right to impeach the president. I want to ask the Millennium Democratic Party as to whether or not they are inclined too much towards an anti-Roh movement to approach the important matter only with emotions.

When politics get confused, the damage will be done to the citizens. As the impeachment ambience of the political world continues, the opinions of public and administration of the government have run awry. Even if politics cannot make people feel better, it should not incense and upset the people.

There still is a way to solve this problem. Roh should apologize and the opposition parties must retract their impeachment bill. If not, our country will be placed in a deadlock.
