Tracing 10 Billion Won of Chun Doo-hwan

Judicial Minister Kang Keum-sil announced on January 16, “The prosecution is tracing 10 billion won of secret money which was allegedly raised by Chun Jae-yong, the second son of former president Chun Doo-hwan.”

Minister Kang said as above in a response to the question of Rep. Hong Joon-pyo in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee at the National Assembly.

Before this, Rep. Hong questioned, “Hasn’t the prosecution discovered that some of the 10 billion won-Certificate of Deposit (CD) related to the son of former President Chun was traced to Roh’s camp near the end of the last presidential election?” Rep. Hong also questioned, “The investigation has suddenly stopped right after the CD was traced to Roh’s camp.”

The CD was issued in the first sales division of H bank and expired on May 16, 2003, according to Rep. Hong.
