The elder or the younger
The champion trophy of Wimbledon is still in the Williams` family den four consecutive years running. Venus Williams, the elder who won the championship in 2000 and 2001, and Serena Williams, the winner last year, are to face-off at the finals.
The Wimbledon womens single semifinal match was held at the All England Club on July 4. Venus, who is seeded number 4, grasped her stomach in pain while she reversed the game to beat number 2 seed Kim Klisters (US), at 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Venus will take on her younger sister Serena, who beat this years French Open Champion Justine Enang twice in consecutive years.
This is the 5th time the sisters are to face each other in the finals in the recent 6 tournaments except the French Open which took place last month, and a total of 6 times so far. Serena is the overwhelming favorite as she has won all matches played against her sister except the 2001 U.S. Open Championship.
Venus considered giving up suffering stomach cramps after losing a game during the match. However, the match was interrupted by rain for an hour, and she decided to continue the game after talking with her sister Venus and mother Orasin Pris. She showed considerable potential by reversing the match after setting her mind to the task at hand. Venus could hardly hold her bag after the match, and said, that she had almost given up the match due to severe pain, but the rain saved me. I endured the pain, clenching my teeth.
The mens singles semifinals will pit Andy Rodic (USA, ranked 6th), Roger Pedere (Switzerland, ranked 5th), Mark Piliposis (Australia, ranked 48th), and Chevastian Grozang (France, ranked 14th). All four have no experience in winning in major competition, thus are all anxious with anticipation to win their first grand slam.
Tim Henman, a strong Wimbledon challenger for the past 6 years failed at his chance to grab the trophy, losing the match against Grozang in the quarterfinals.
