Thousands of Chinese Communist Party members plotted a mass resignation against Presidents Jiangs capitalist stance, Hong Kong-based daily the South China Morning Post reported on August 7.
According to the paper, the communist party prevented a mass resignation and an outdoor rally by thousands of communist comrades, including retired officials and military personnel, who are angry at the presidents acceptance of entrepreneurs into the party.
Communist members set a plan to submit resignations en mass in Tiananmen Square on July 1, the 80th anniversary of the partys foundation, but the information was leaked and the plan was aborted, the daily quoted its source close to the party.
What seems to be a reaction to the foiled plan, the Chinese Rimbin Ilbo wrote an editorial on July 22 calling party members to be loyal before the 16th Communist Party Congress. The editorial also pointed to that the success of the Chinese leadership hinges upon every each member.
President Jiang plans to officially introduce the so-called three representatives theory in the 16th congress. Hardliners in the party are, however, vehemently opposing the plan that embraces entrepreneurs as production force.
Earlier, militant members openly criticized Jiang over the Internet of being a spokesman for entrepreneurs, not workers and farmers, who account for only 0.3% of the population. They waged a 10,000 men signature campaign in protest against his policy.
