Incheon District Prosecution and Incheon International Airport Customs announced on the 15th that a South African, Tambo Radisson (37), was arrested and indicted for attempting to smuggle 30 kilograms of South African marijuana (worth 300 million won) into the country.
30 kilograms of marijuana is equivalent to 60 75 percent of the average amount smuggled into the country annually (40 50kg). Considering that 0.03 grams of marijuana is normally contained in 1 roll, the discovered amount is enough for 100,000 people to smoke simultaneously.
According to the authorities, Radisson made an attempt to smuggle in 34 compressed packets of marijuana, each containing 700 to 1,100 grams, through the Incheon International Airport on the Cathay Pacific flight that came from South Africa via Hong Kong on the 3rd.
As a detection dog recognized the smell of marijuana from his bag that came out of the Baggage Handling System (BHS), Radisson left the bag behind and was arrested when he went to the warehouse for lost baggage to claim his bag. Incorporated investigation team is assuming that the drug is connected with international drug-smuggling organizations such as Japans yakuza.
