Posted February. 04, 2002 09:17,

The Prosecution indirectly confirmed on the 3rd the fact that Shin Seung-Hwan, brother of former Prosecutor General Shin Seung-Nam, met previous director of the office of National Tax Administration, Ahn Jeong-Nam last June requesting reduction and exemption from taxes, and the fact that Ahn gave instructions to NTA officer.

The Seoul district Prosecution, the special precinct 2 (Park Yong Seok, chief prosecutor), which is investigating the issue of reduction and exemption in taxes clarified this fact on the 3rd and are tracking the officer in the National Tax Administration who received instructions from Mr. Ahn.

The Prosecution summoned and investigated an individual involved in the National Tax Administration, Seoul, who took charge of the investigation regarding the private moneylender, Mr. Choi (42) who requested reduction and exemption in taxes to Mr. Shin.

The Prosecution will summon Mr. Choi who showed intention of appearing voluntarily and will investigate whether he received actual reduction and exemption in taxes or not after making the request to Mr. Shin.

The Prosecution summoned and investigated Mr. Shin for two previous days and reached the conclusion that he received 100 million won from Mr. Choi to meet Mr. Ahn in order to request tax reduction.

However, the Prosecution reported that Mr. Shin resisted, saying, "I don`t know whether Mr. Ahn instructed his officer to reduce the taxes or not." and denied charges that he received 50 million won from a complaint case of union apartment.
