College Girl Aged 63

`CEO Grandma` who once made the news (article in Donga Ilbo, A31on November 7th, 2001) by taking the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) last year in spite of her physical handicap, was finally admitted to college.

Song Soon-Dong, representative of Choyang Trade Co. in Nam-Gu, Ulsan passed the special admission process for a concentration on Kimchi in Chongju National College of Science and Technology, Chungbuk, and could not contain her joy after she received the acceptance letter from college officials on the 18th.

Mrs. Song said that she wanted to be `Doctor of Kimchi` and make the excellence of Kimchi known to the world. Her hope that Kimchi will come to occupy the dining tables all over the world may be accomplished.

Mrs. Song had quit junior high school, but she had lasting longings for learning. Hence, she began her education again and passed the qualification examination for junior high school in 1999 and for high school in 2000, and finally took the CSAT.

Mrs. Song, who has 3rd grade disability from arthritis, said, "It was hard to study because of my physical disability and old age, but I am happy to learn what I wanted to study. My heart beats fast when I think of spending time with young students who will be my grandchildren`s age."

Mrs. Song, who is from Kaesung, Kyonggi province, lived in Pusan after escaping from the Korean War, and moved to Ulsan, where she established a delivery company. She has been busy engaged in social activities such as serving as the first chairperson of the Women`s Rotary Club in Ulsan.
