President of the Daewoo Motor Co. Lee Jong-Dae (photo) said yesterday, ``The reason why we laid off 7,000 workers last time was, to save the remaining 15,000 workers.`` ``Now, my job is to secure the remaining 15,000 workers.``

President Lee`s statement can be interpreted as a `message` to include the Bupyung factory in the selling deal between America’s General Motors (GM).

During a phone conversation, he stressed why the factory must continued saying, ``If the factory shuts down, 4,300 laborers will be out on the streets. If that happens, the previous layoff of 7,000 workers will be meaningless.``

At the `committee conference to save the Daewoo Motor` held at the Bupyung factory on 12th, president Lee mentioned, ``I will not sign the document if the deal does not include the Bupyung factory.``

The labor union of the Daewoo changed their opinion on the abroad sale, from a `do-or-die opposition` to `will cope with the deal monitoring the flow`. It is expected that the company and union will lead the sale negotiation focusing on `job security` through a `lump-sale` including the Bupyung factory.
