In Algiers, the capital of Algeria, as hundred thousands of Berber protestors crashed with the police on 14th during an anti-government demonstration, two reporters were killed and 400 people were injured.
Yesterday, the Berbers marched asking the government to officially recognize their own language and to stop oppression toward minority ethnic groups. In the protest, significant number of anti-government personages including representatives from opposition parties also participated.
While they marched to the palace of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, two journalists were killed hit by a bus.
Foreign news agencies reported that more than 400 people were also injured due to the harsh quelling by the police during which they fired tear gas and water cannons.
Although French broadcasters and AFP reporters said that the police opened fire at protester, the Ministry of Home Affairs has denied it.
The Berbers, who mainly reside in Kabyle region, held numerous demonstrations after a teen-ager Berber was killed in a police station on 18th, April.
Some protestors armed with weapons plundered shops and warehouses on that day.
