Delay in cultural exchanges with Japan mulled

Posted March. 30, 2001 14:36,

If the Japanese government authorizes the publication of textbooks containing distorted accounts of history, the government will lodge a formal protest against Japan and demand a revision of the distorted historical facts. And if the Tokyo government fails to comply with the Korean request, it will take stronger countermeasures including the deferral of cultural exchange programs between the two countries.

At the same time, the government plans to send a protest emissary to Tokyo and take various steps including the suspension of bilateral cooperation projects to cope with the Japanese move to justify its colonization of Korea and imperial aggression into other Asian countries.

A set of these measures were worked out at an emergency meeting of the related government agencies including Cheong Wa Dae, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development and the Government Information Agency. The meeting was chaired by Vice Foreign Affairs-Trade Minister Ban Ki-Moon.
