The Kyonggi provincial police cyber crime investigation squad arrested a 19-year-old boy Wednesday for violating the law on the protection of youth, and booked six other high school students on charges of violating the basic law on telecommunications after they were discovered to be operation an online pornography site.
The arrests represent the first time that stipulations for the protection of youth were invoked to punish an act of making Web-based obscene material available to young people.
Police detected a number of similar site operators but failed to prove that the pornographic materials they had posted were accessed by children. The suspect in the case just finished high school this year, police said, and on Jan. 1 began offering sexually explicit images of a teenage girl on his home page to subscribers who were required to pay a 6,000 won access fee.
