The year¡¯s final performance of ¡°Subway Festival 2000¡± will be staged at the Kyongbok Palace station of the Seoul Subway Line No. 3 for six hours from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 23.
There is no admission fee for the festival, which has been held at major subway stations in Seoul since May.
A total of 13 teams, chosen by a survey, will perform in the event. They include Cabaret Sound, Silver Trio and the Lee Sung-Jun/Lee Soo-Jin Classic Guitar Duo.
A problem with the event is that there are no sufficient seats, compared with the professional performing venues. This kind of performance is unfamiliar here, but in New York and Paris, with a long history of subways, the underground stations have been a place for this genre of arts for a long time.
The Subway Festival 2000, which was held 351 times over the past eight months at the subway stations such as Ulchiro, Chongno 3-ga and Tongdaemun Stadium, drew a total of 100,000 spectators, according to the organizers. Many artists rose to stardom through the subway concerts.
