The nation's Anti-Cyber Terrorism Center said it had apprehended a high school student in Taejon who hacked into 46 Korean sites to get personal information on 6.3 million people for the purpose of extorting money from the operators of the sites.
In separate incident, a student in Taegu and two others were found to have hacked into an Internet gift site and got personal information on 200,000 people. They were arrested on charges of infringing on telecommunications network use laws.
The police revealed that the hacking incident was the worst ever, as personal information on close to half of the nation's 15 million Internet users were obtained.
