Korean retailers up to foreign challenge

Hwang Kyoung-Kyu, representative of E-mart of Shinsegae Department Store, is dubbed godfather of the Korean-style discount store in the retail sector. Hwang, who took charge of managing four E-mart stores in 1996, fostered the company as a giant business now having 27 stores for a yearly sale of 3 trillion won.
