President Kim Dae-Jung said Wednesday that the government would provide measures to eliminate discrimination against graduates of provincial colleges or universities, even by enacting laws if necessary.

During a luncheon with prominent local figures at the Mudeung Park Hotel in Kwangju, the President assured that measures would be adopted to ensure the equal treatment of graduates of local schools, pointing out that many of them have been discriminated against in their job hunts because of their academic backgrounds.

Earlier in the day, President Kim visited the Kwangju City Hall and received briefings on the city administration. During the briefing session, he promised that the government would grant a financial subsidy of 10 billion won to the construction of a memorial hall for the Kwangju Student Uprising and develop a venture district on Kumnam-ro Street so it could become the center of a flourishing Kwangju city.
