The age limit for various employment examinations for those who have done their compulsory military service will be extended for the period they serve in the military from next year.

This new policy means that those who are in the military for three years will be allowed to apply for state examinations up to the age of 35, rather than 32.

The Regulation Reform Committee of the government will prepare an amendment to the Law on the Support of Discharged Soldiers to that effect, and submit it to the ongoing regular National Assembly session. The plan is a supplementary measure following the ruling of the Constitutional Court last year that adding special points to discharged soldiers in the examinations of employment was unconstitutional, a committee spokesman said Monday.

The purpose of the projected revision is to help discharged soldiers advance in society and not to have them suffer disadvantages due to their military service, he said.

The projected new policy will be applied to a total of 20,000 workplaces such as government agencies, local autonomous bodies, and private and public firms employing 20 or more a day.

Those who serve for a certain period acting in the public interest instead of the military service will also benefit from the new policy and details will be stipulated in the enforcement decree, according to the spokesman.
