Pyongyang Broadcasting and other stations in North Korea publicized Sunday a tripartite meeting that took place on Sept. 29 attended by the North Korean government, the Labor Party and various representatives from public organizations. Those at the meeting decided to invite various representatives from South Korea to attend the Worker¡¯s Party of Korea's 55th anniversary celebration Oct. 10. The public broadcast stated that the participants in the meeting decided to build upon the June 15th Joint Declaration and proposed to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the Labor Party with the South Korean representatives to promote mutual understanding and trust. The North Korean media reported that those at the meeting decided to invite various South Korean dignitaries and would send official invitation letters.
Every February, North Korea holds tripartite meetings of the government, Worker¡¯s Party, and civic group representatives and sends a letter to the South. However, unlike in the past when the letters called for the abolishment of the National Security Law and the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Korea, the tripartite participants decided this year to set out in a new direction for a common goal and future through the actualization of the inter-Korean summit.
