Losses from the medical strike that lasted from Jun. 20 to Sept. 27 are estimated to total 978.3 billion won for 279 polyclinics and 596 general hospitals, excluding small clinics.
The Millennium Democratic Party's Kim Sung-Soon of the Health and Welfare Committee, a subsidiary of the national assembly, asserted that according to audit and inspection materials submitted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on Friday and the Korea Hospital Association¡¯s analysis of losses incurred from forgone examination fees, the total losses of polyclinics and general hospitals totaled 660.8 billion won and 317.5 billion won respectively.
Moreover, the annual loss from the reform of medical products since January last year reached 1 trillion and 825.9 billion won for polyclinics around the nation, equivalent to an average of 1.8 million per hospital room.
