Hyundai, Daewoo, Samsung to restore rail

The government has selected Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co., Daewoo Construction Co., Samsung Corp. and three small firms to restore the 12-kilometer section of railroad between Munsan and Jangdan on the Gyeongui Line.

The construction companies also will build six kilometers of four-lane roadway, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation announced on September4.

The Office of Supply signed a contract with the six companies for the railroad restoration work on Tuesday, and they will finish the contract by Saturday for the construction of the new roadway and others parts of the project.

The budgets are 19.8 billion won for the railroad restoration and 67 billion won for the road construction.Hyundai will hold 36 percent of the project, Daewoo and Samsung 20 percent each, and the three small firms will hold 8 percent each.
