Semiconductor sales in the world market set a new record in June. According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), semiconductor sales for the month reached US$16.6 billion, up a healthy 48.1% from the US$11.2 billion registered for the same month last year. The brisk sale of semiconductor chips is largely attributable to a steadily increasing demand for internet infrastructure and mobile telecom equipment. By product, sales of flash memory jumped 167% from a year earlier, while those of DRAMs, digital signal processors (DSP) and microprocessors increased by 75%, 51% and 36%, respectively.
By region, semiconductor sales posted a strong growth in Asia-Pacific and Japan with 52.8% and 50.8% year-on-year gains, respectively. In addition, the U.S. and EU markets showed year-on-year gains of 42.7% and 48.1%, respectively.
