On the 29th, President Bill Clinton, along with his wife, who is currently running for a seat in the Senate, attended a fund-raiser hosted by a Korean-American Association in New York. With a century of immigration history under its belt, the Korean-American Association has had previous fund-raisers, but to have the President and the First Lady attend in person marks its` first-ever.

The First Couple arrived at the fund-raiser in Manhattan around 1:10 p.m. and met with approximately 30 prominent figures in the Korean-American social sphere. The couple then met with 140 or so attendees at a luncheon.

President Clinton spoke at the luncheon expressing his thanks to the Korean-Americans for hosting such a fund-raiser for his wife`s campaign. He then asked for their support for the Democratic candidates in the upcoming November election, so that the current foreign policy toward Korea will be upheld.

In connection to the changes in the Korean peninsula, he expressed his support for President Kim Dae-Jung and the new direction taken by the North. In her speech to the assembly, Hillary Clinton pointed out that without immigrants, New York, as we know it, would not exist. She praised the Korean-American community in Flushing, adding that the area thrives and is the result of Korean-American diligence, sincerity, and effort.
