200 selected for North-South family reunion

The Korean Red Cross selected the final 200 candidates for the separated families meeting delegation at the 3rd selection committee meeting held on the 14th and the list is to be delivered to the North.

Of the selected separated families members 162 were over the age of 70(81.0%), 38 under 70(19.0%) while 147 were male and 53 were female. The Korean Red Cross will inform the 200 candidates individually by the 15th and the list will be sent to North Korea on the 16th.

North Korea is also expected to send its list of 200 candidates to visit Seoul and once the list is received, work to confirm whether or not the listed people are alive or dead will take place at the separated families information center and other related government agencies.

Head of the selection committee, Park Ki-Ryoon revealed, "Of the 400 first round candidates 153 were dropped due to death, nullification of application and fitness problems, and the final selection round was implemented through a computer drawing process."

He added, "The same criteria used at the first selection round were applied to today`s lottery. The 100 candidates to be excluded from the final list out of the present 200 and the 400 first round candidates who failed to go to the 2nd round will be given consideration to meet at the interview house."
