SLD Telecom Launch CDMA Service in Vietnam

SLD Telecom, a consortium of SK Telecom, LG Electronics and Dongah Electcom announced on June 9th that it would start CDMA-based communications service in Vietnam from July 1st, for the first time in its kind overseas.

The service named “S-Fone” is based on CDMA 2000-1X which is a 2.5-generation mobile communications service.

The service enables using of mobile picture mail and calling service by sending and receiving data in high speed.

SLD Telecom has already finished setting up communications network in 10 major regions in Vietnam for this service, cooperating with Vietnamese SPT Corporation and plans to expand the service to nationwide within the next two to three years.

It also plans to provide domestically-produced phone sets to the Vietnam market to speed up establishing its business.
