See the first sunrise of 2017 at Dokdo Islets

The first sunrise of 2017 will be observed over Dokdo Islets on New Year’s Day at 7:26 a.m., while you can catch the first sunrise of 2017 at 7:47 a.m. in Seoul.

The first sunrise time of famous sunrise spots and major cities on New Year’s Day, according to the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute reported Friday. The first sunrise will be seen from Ganjeolgot Cape in Ulsan City at 7:31 a.m. and Jeongdongjin in Gangneung City at 7:39 a.m., which are the famous tourist destinations for sunrise spot. People can observe the first sunrise of 2017 in Busan City at 7:32 a.m., Incheon City at 7:48 a.m., Daegu City at 7:35 a.m., Gwangju City at 7:41 a.m. and Daejeon City at 7:42 a.m.

Unfortunately, Ulsan City announced Friday that the city will cancel this year’s sunrise event at Ganjeolgot Cape, which has been celebrated on every New Year’s Day, in order to keep the town safe from avian influenza spreading across the nation. Gangneung City also announced that the city will close the Sea Buchaegil road around the Jeongdong valley on New Year’s Day regardless of weather conditions in order to prevent accidents from the crowd flocking to Jeongdongjin.

The last sunset of 2016 will be observed over Gageodo Island in South Jeolla Province at 5:40 p.m. The last sunset on land will be seen at 5:35 p.m. from Sebang Sunset in South Jeolla Province.
