Provincial council approves dismissal of Jinju medical center

Council members affiliated with the ruling Saenuri Party are engaged in physical conflict with members of the Democratic Reform Coalition, the negotiating block of the opposition camp, in the former’s bid to pass an ordinance to close the Jinju Medical Center at the main hall of the South Gyeongsang Provincial Council at around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Kim Oh-young, chairman of South Gyeongsang Provincial Council, declared passage of the bill in a surprise move only five minutes after putting it to a vote, by hammering the podium with his hand, without holding the gavel.
