The Cultural Heritage Administration’s Cultural Properties Committee has urged the Seoul city government to preserve the original building in the process of remodeling. Ignoring the recommendation, the city began breaking Taepyeong Hall of the main building (cultural asset No. 52). The work to break the building was suspended, however, as the committee held an emergency meeting with departments on historical relics and modern cultural heritages and decided to designate the building as a historical landmark. To change the shape of historical remains, the committee`s approval is required. The main building of Seoul City Hall is representative of modern Korean architecture.
