The name of Marion Jones (31, photo), a U.S. female star athlete, will no longer appear in the Olympic records.
After it was confirmed that Jones had taken banned drugs, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) held an executive committee in Switzerland on December 13 and decided to strip Jones of all the five medals she won in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and to delete all the records as well, reported the AP.
In the Sydney Olympics, Jones won gold medals in the womens 100m, 200m, and 1600m races and bronze medals in the long jump and 400m race, becoming the first female athlete to achieve five medals in a season.
Recently, however, she was found to have taken banned drugs provided by Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative and had her name deleted from the record books of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) with a two-year suspension.
