Pakistan Declares Emergency

Yesterday, two days after Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf declared national emergency, soldiers in armored vehicles patrolled roads in front of the Presidential Palace in Islamabad. With the declaration, the Constitution was suspended and the chief of the Supreme Court, political dissidents, and opposition party leaders were arrested. All broadcasting except for national Pakistani TV was banned. The country is currently gripped by tension and chaos.
