A large 2-hectare (6000-pyeong) lake located in the Bernado OHiggins National Park in the southernmost region of Magallanes, Chile, has suddenly disappeared. Filled with melted glacier water, the lake was in a normal state (left) in March, but started vaporizing in late May and is now completely dry (right). Chiles National Forest Service experts say the water seeped through cracks in the lake floor created by recent minor earthquakes in this area.
