The relationship between Tiger Woods and his caddy Steve Williams (New Zealand) is often compared to “a thread and needle,” meaning their inseparably related partnership.

They have been ranked at the top in the PGA since their first pairing in the April 1999. Woods participated in the New Zealand Open for Williams, and he ran in a race for the same reason in the beginning of this year. Williams earns over a million dollars per year thanks to Woods.

Michelle Wie (17) should envy him for his good partner. She fired her caddy Greg Johnston after she finished the Women’s British Open 2006 with a poor record of 26th place, which was her worst result this year. According to the Associated Press, Johnston received notice of his discharge at Manchester Airport just before his leaving for the U.S..

Johnston started caddying for Wie less than one year ago. He achieved four major golf championship wins and countless other victories with Julie Inkster over 12 years, whose name is listed in the LPGA Hall of Fame.

Johnston said, “It is astonishing and shocking. I thought we have been doing good. What is disappointing is that I received the dismissal notice from her agent.”
