American billionaire Steve Fossett (61) waved to onlookers after setting a new world flight record in Kansas on March 17.
He challenged and broke the closed circuit flight record, which is a flight that originates and ends at the same destination. The world record had been 40,225km set in 1986. Fossett flew 40,708km in 74 hours to break the record.
Fossett set a new non-closed circuit world flight record of 42,260km in 76 hours last month.
