Posted March. 07, 2006 03:35,

The joint audit conducted by the government revealed that Gyeonggi Province left out an imposing local tax and allotted excessive construction expenses last year. Gyeonggi Province reportedly should charge or reduce an additional 41.534 billion won.

This money collected in addition is the largest ever revealed by the joint government audit.

The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs (MOGAHA) announced yesterday that it conducted the joint government audit on Gyeonggi Province, including cities and counties last October and November. It prosecuted a total of 332 cases related to excessive expenditure and law violations.

The ministry prosecuted 444 civil servants who were involved in deliberately offering preferences and illegal activities and neglecting national policies. The ministry urged 111 civil servants to be disciplined and the other 333 to be warned.

“Gyeonggi Province has more cases related to the violation and evasion of the law than other local governments as a variety of constructions and developments are going on in Gyeonggi Province,” the ministry official said.

30.5 billion won must be collected on reconstruction or current construction projects, and 11 billion won for local tax, with 41.534 billion won allocated for Gyeonggi.
