A Web site in Chinese opened last August to promote the Sinuiju Special Administrative Region in North Korea, titled, “Chosun Sinuiju” explains Goguryeo as a “country an ancient local tribe has founded.”

This site described in its “Chosun History” section, “The Goguryeo tribe consists of ancient settlers in Liaodung, China and the northwest region of Chosun,” and, “Our country (China)’s ancient northeast history and Chosun’s ancient history haven’t seen many tribes with a wider territory or an older and richer history than the Goguryeo tribe.”

The site quotes from Jinsu’s “Samgookji (A Chronicle of Three nations)” and an ancient Chinese Geography book, “Sanhaegyeong (A Mountain and Sea Book),” that the Goguryeo tribe is a tribe originated from the Mac tribe and later divided into five subdivisions: (Bu) namely, Jul-no, Sun-no, Gwan-no, Yuen-no, and Gey-ru.

The nationality of the operator of the site is unclear. This site only states that a non-profit, non-governmental academic organization is operating the site to provide unbiased and fair information on Sinuiju and North Korea.

However, based on clues such as that the site calls China as “our country” and uses some terms that are not commonly used in North Korea, the site seems to be operated by a Chinese individual.
