On October 10, the Federation of Korean Industries and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry have expressed their opinion about President Roh Moo-hyun’s statement on an assessment of the public’s confidence in him in a possible recall, “We are afraid that the process of an assessment of the public’s confidence in him might worsen the present economic situation” asking for a withdrawal of the statement.

The Federation addressed on the same day in a statement, “We understand the President Roh’s resolution for a recall is an unprecedented idea in our political history to be responsible for his core surroundings’ alleged corruption and that it is a decision out of careful thoughts in order to gain the people’s confidence.” However, the Federation said, “Considering the current situation of economic difficulties, the North Korean nuclear issue, six-party talks, and sending troops to Iraq, a strong leadership is desperately in need to solve out all these problems. The process of a recall can complicate the economic situation, so we earnestly wish that he changes his mind on it.”

The Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry also expressed their concerns, “Even if President Roh’s remark on recall is out of his genuine intention of gaining the people’s confidence, it is highly likely that its result caused the present situation to develop more troubles and conflicts.” They also said, “No matter what kind of recall he takes, it wouldn’t help the economy. We have to come up with a better idea that can refresh the current situation by inducing people’s cooperation from different backgrounds rather than a recall.”
