Kim`s Comeback to the ML in 28 Days

Posted May. 27, 2003 21:45,

Byung-Hyun Kim will make his ML comeback today against the San Francisco Giants, which will take place at 11:15 in San Francisco.

In an interview with the Associated Press yesterday, Arizona Diamondbacks Manager Bob Brenly announced, "I will put BK on the mound for the Tuesday game in San Francisco. Friday, Patterson will be brought up from Triple-A Tucson to start in place of Webb." This is Kim`s first appearance in 28 days. He last pitched 6 innings against the Florida Marlins, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits.

Brenly`s announcement surprised many. Few expected Kim to be back so early. Kim was originally believed to have come back early next month. His ankle got better, but he got another injury on his left thigh, while trying to make a bunt on May 22.

Brenly, however, ordered him to pitch. He reportedly said, "I examined his side-pitching and running. The report said Kim got much better. Lots of worries were wiped out." In reality, Brenly needs him now more than ever. Randy Johnson got back to the DL again, and Miguel Batista got suspended for ten games. Furthermore, Webb collapsed.

Kim`s season record 1-5, and ERA is 4.00. He will pitch against San Francisco Giant`s ace Jason Schmidt.

Jung Bong of the Atlanta Braves took the mound on the 11th against the Cincinnati Reds yesterday with one out. He injured his left thigh with a ball hit by Jose. Later it was determined that the injury was more serious.

Despite the injury however, Bong grounded out the following two hitters. The Braves tried to catch up in vain and lost the game to the Reds 6-7.

Hee Choi of the Chicago Cubs took to bat against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and recorded 0 for 2 with one walk.
