7,000 Students Were Reallocated to Other High Schools

Posted February. 14, 2002 09:19,

Out of total 37,467 students whose allocation to high schools were withdrawn due to computer processing errors in the 4 leveled high school districts including Suwon, Seongnam, Goyang and Anyang (Kwacheon, Uiwang, Kunpo) districts, 7,000 students are likely to be allocated to different high schools from previously selected ones in the reallocation to be processed on the 16th.

The cause of the errors in processing was found to be a computer error in queuing second choice high schools selected by students who were cut in first stage allocation where students were allocated according to their first choices.

Kyonggi Provincial Office of Education announced on the 13th, "We confirmed that the errors came up in the second round of allocation (by close distance) from close examination. We corrected the error in programming and reallocated the students, but will announce the final result on the 16th after examining it again."

Kyonggi Provincial Office of Education said that even after the reallocation of 19,000 students, there will be no change for students who had been allocated in the first stage, but the 7,000 students who had been allocated to wrong schools out of 17,759 students who were allocated at the second stage allocation would be allocated to different schools.

It added that processing errors were not found in allocating the rest of the 10,000 students who were allocated in the second stage.

The reallocation results will be announced at 10 o`clock in the morning of the 16th, and the preliminary call will be made in each school on the 18th. The registration period is extended to 18th ~ 22nd from the 14th.

Kyonggi Provincial Office of Education let concerned school inspectors and school affairs section chief in the District Educational Office examine the result of the re-allocation until the 12th in order to prevent another programming error on the 13th.

And the office is likely to summon head teachers in charge of 3rd grade junior high schools in related districts and let them confirm the result.

An official of the Kyonggi Provincial Office of Education said, "We will open all the re-allocation materials to persuade the students and their parents who are dissatisfied with the re-allocation to the school they dislike from the former school they like."

The materials will be available at the information desk which will be installed in the related district educational offices immediately after the announcement of the reallocation. In the Metropolitan leveled high schools districts, there is no reallocation in Bucheon where allocation was 100 percent complete in the first stage.

Meanwhile, in relation to the responsibility for this situation, "We will censure the person in charge after settling the situation." announced Kyonggi Provincial Office of Education.
