`Fight for the Continent…`
2001 South America Soccer Championship final-match will be a fight between South and North America.
On 27th there was the semifinals in Columbia Manisales. The host country Columbia who had raised several troubles finally defeat the strong killer Onduras with the victory of 2-0 with the crucial goal by Victore Aristisabal, the star striker of Columbian team. With this victory, Columbia team approached the final match with 5 victories in a low with no loss of goals. The final match ( 30th in Bogota) will be the fight between Columbia, the representative of South America and Mexico, and the representative of North America.
The semifinal was a unilateral victory of Columbia who received enormous cheering by the home ground spectators. Colombian team poured in 4 goals within 5 minutes after the game started. Columbia so far did not give up any goal including three preliminary games in a row.
The first goal was by Bedoya (Columbia) who broke the left center of the field and made a left-foot goal in a moment of loose defense by Oundras. After 20 min of the last half game, Aristisabal made a goal with the assistance of Fredi Grisales after shortly trapping the ball by chest. With this goal, Aristisabal reserved the first place of the greatest number of goals, defeating Paulo Wanchope (Costarika -6 goals).
Gebbara of Onduras shot a goal after the first half game started; Fulio Reon also tried a crucial free kick; however, it was not successful.
