Fuss of the Political Circle

Politics are drifting without an anchor. Every single day, new issues are blurted out and they ignite political controversies between the ruling and opposition parties in terms of the presidential election for next year. Even though the presidential election is to come one year 7 months from now, the politicians have always been busy of calculating the advantages and disadvantages of daily updated issues. They have taken no account of the problems of the national economic situation and public welfares.

Suspicion theory of political reshuffling early this year has been followed by a theory of constitution amendment, a theory of new party establishment, early nomination of the ruling party’s presidential candidate, a separation theory of the party’s national convention, JP’s theory of grand dream. To make it worse, the ruling party has fallen into an internal strife between the groups of `relentless reformation` theorists and `reform fatigue` theorists, concerning the party’s reformation policies.

All of these `theories` disregarding people’s situation are based on the political maneuvers on behalf of manipulating the situations favorable to the presidential election of next year. It is obvious that the parties and politicians can not be blamed for their efforts to utilize political situation and try to come into power through their political strategies. However, when it comes with such `theories` and controversies of Korean politicians which are totally alienated from the public opinion, people feel disgusted of the political rhetoric. It is also fearful that the voyage of the country in the future would be in danger.

In what situation is Korea now? There is no time for the politicians to waste such precious time. However, the National Assembly convened independently by the Grand National Party (GNP) is opened. But in fact, no business took place within past 15 days. The ruling and the opposition party talk with one voice about the problems of economy and public welfare. But they have never looked up laws related to the reformation and public livelihoods. The politicians make people even more upset about their `golf politics` and `lecture politics.` It is questionable whether they are really representatives of Korea.

The consumer prices are jumping every day and unemployed people are struggling to find a job. The voices from the suffering people are heard everywhere. It is too soon to expect the perfect economic recovery and the export drive is stumbling. Turning away their faces from these situation, politicians are absorbed in their own controversies about next administration and `supreme power.` Unnecessary controversies concerning all kinds of theories and the next presidential election should be abandoned right away. The politics based on political strives and maneuvers will eventually lose the public support. The ruling and the opposition party must gather into the Assembly and show their serious effort to resolve the entangled problems.
