Lee Hoi-Chang, president of the opposition Grand National Party (GNP), called Tuesday for a sweeping review of the nation`s medical system with regard to the exhaustion of medical insurance funds. He claimed that a partial reform could not solve the fundamental problems.
In a meeting with reporters at his home in Kahoe-dong, central Seoul, Lee said that the government should make every effort to alleviate the people`s pain, citing rumors that medical insurance finances would dry up in May or July.
However, the opposition leader made it clear that ``it is irresponsible to claim that the separation of the roles of doctors and pharmacists should be postponed or suspended, since it was already been implemented.``
``Since the incumbent government has no ability and will to solve the problem, our party will concentrate on suggesting solutions,`` he said.
