In the 5th preliminary game at Blacktown Baseball Park, Korea shut the Netherlands down 2-0, improving its record to 2 wins and 3 losses and giving the Korean side a slight chance of reaching the semis. The greatest factor in breaking the 3 game slide, in which Korea lost to Australia, Cuba and the U.S., was underhand pitcher Park Seok-Jin. Park got a perfect save win against the Italian side on the 17th by shutting down 10 hitters. Until the 8th inning, he gave up only 2 hits and 2 walks, leading the Korean team to its second win.
Korea scored in the bottom of the 1st, after Park Jong-Ho brought home Lee Byung-Kyu, who had hit a double before Park. With only 1 out and runners on the second and third, team captain Kim Ki-Tae got a hit to add one more run. The Netherlands, which raised a small storm by beating Cuba and Australia, changed its number 4 hitter to Hensley Meulens, a former SK team member, but Meulens went 4 and 0 at bat due to Park Seok-Jin/Lim Chang-Yong's great pitching.
