Typhoon Prapiroon, which hit the peninsula with intense winds, resulted in human casualties, including 5 dead and 25 missing, and severe capital and asset damage nationwide from August 31 until September 1.

In particular, at 1:23 a.m. September 1, a fishing ship called Hongyong-ho No. 9 sank in the seas off Uldo, Deokjeok-myeon, Ongjin-gun, Incheon, resulting in 9 persons missing, including the ship`s captain, Park Soo-Jeong (Age 52). In the Incheon area, 12 ships either sank or were capsized, resulting in the death of 1 crew member and 20 persons missing.

Before this, at around 9:30 p.m. August 31, a fishing ship called Heunghae-ho sank in the waters off the Sinjinhang Dock, in Geunheung-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungnam, leaving 5 crew members, including the ship`s captain, Kim Myong-Kon (Age 49), missing. The coastal police is currently searching for the crew. According to the Central Anti-Calamity Headquarters on September 1, 293 persons from 71 households nationwide became victims of the 12th typhoon. 226 houses and commercial buildings were either damaged or flooded, resulting in capital and assets damage worth 30 billion won.
